Thirty something Hillary Burns has spent her entire life trying to get the approval of her parents, most specifically her judgmental mum, Meredith burns up, thus far without success. Part of this endorsement for Hillary is to marry the man. That's why Hillary is so joyful that she is engaged to lawyer Jason King, who she will buy to meet with up with the household for the first time. But, as he attempts to concentrate on his livelihood that's apparently more important to him than Hillary Hillary's life starts to fall apart when simultaneously she's her newspaper writing job when the newspaper itself folds, and Jason dumps her.
